In 2021, just 2.5 years into my career, I bought my first home at 24 years old.
I’m a Black woman, and that first purchase—a condo—has since become a rental property, making me a landlord. I didn’t have generational wealth or decades of experience. I had a plan, financial discipline, and the confidence to start before I felt fully “ready.”
Too often, women are told to wait until we earn more, save more, or reach some imaginary milestone. But real estate doesn’t require perfection. It rewards early, intentional action.
Buying my first property changed my relationship with money. Instead of rent disappearing each month, I began building equity and generating income. That shift—from renter to owner—created leverage and long-term opportunity.
For Black women especially, real estate is powerful. It’s stability, ownership, and a meaningful step toward building wealth.
